Longview Crusaders Work for Disaster Relief
Longview » During the summer of 2011, the Longview Crusaders Pathfinder Club made a commitment to prepare disaster relief kits for Adventist Community Services. The club began by organizing a three-day garage sale for which church members could donate items.
The Pathfinders took turns working at the garage sale, where they also sold snow cones and bottled water to potential customers. The proceeds from the sale, along with donations from church members and a local dentistry, enabled the club to assemble the kits this past December. The fellowship hall buzzed with excitement as the Pathfinders stood in an assembly line to place 14 items into each kit.
Philippians 2:4 says, "Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others." The Pathfinders were surprised to find that they had enough donations to fill two large boxes, which contained a total of 50 personal disaster relief kits. More importantly, they were assured that they had made a difference in the lives of those who had been or would be affected by natural disasters.
