Houston Metropolitan — The New Year ushered in many things “new” for our church. Xavier and Jennifer Castillo welcomed a new addition to their family, a beautiful baby boy named Gabriel. Many others accepted new commitments as department heads and board members. However, for five special individuals, 2008 brought more than tasks or titles. For Aguinaldo Cuaresma, Giovanni Cuaresma, John Paguinto, Maria Paguinto, and Rosie Paguinto, 2008 brought new beginnings, new family members, and a newfound relationship with Jesus Christ.
After months of Bible studies with Pastor Rolando Baysa and head elder Ely Lagazo, along with Bryan Baysa, Kyle Diaz, and Ely Don Lagazo, these five people decided to welcome Jesus Christ into their hearts and to devote their lives to Him. Says baptismal candidate Aguinaldo Cuaresma, “God committed to us by sending Jesus Christ to die for our sins, although we don’t deserve it. Being baptized is my humble way of committing to Him.”
The Cuaresmas and Paguintos were baptized at Houston International Church on December 29, 2007. Their friends, families, and new church members listened as they gave heartwarming and tear-jerking testimonies.
“I didn’t mean to cry,” says Maria Paguinto, baptismal candidate. “I really didn’t! But in that moment, it was like God told me that it was OK to let it all out and let go of the past. I could hear Him telling me that He loved me and that He was giving me this second chance.”
The Cuaresmas and the Paguintos have already started actively serving the Lord. Maria, John, and Aguinaldo played major parts in the Youth Department’s Christmas Pageant, “A Story for Christmas,” this past December. From the Metropolitan church, we wish you all the best in your walk with Christ and warmly welcome you to the family!
