Visitors from Belize bring warm memories
Reunion of Mena church members who helped build the New Horizon SDA Chapel with Rigoberto and Shirley Roches, and Francisco Martinez of Belize.
Horizon SDA Chapel in San Pedro, Belize, which Mena church members helped to build.
Mena — (Ark.) June 28 was a wonderful reunion Sabbath for our church when Rigoberto Roches from San Pedro, Belize, was the special speaker.
In February 2004, 17 members from the Mena church traveled to San Pedro, Belize in Central America to help build a church at the New Horizon Seventh-day Adventist School. More than $20,000 dollars was raised by the Mena church members for this project. Those who traveled to Belize got acquainted with Rigoberto Roches as he oversaw the building project. The Mena members worked on the project for four days, and left with the walls completed. Roches saw the project to completion, and one year later, three members from the Mena church were privileged to be at the dedication ceremony of the New Horizon Seventh-day Adventist Chapel.
Our church was honored to have Brother Roches, his wife, Shirley, and Francisco Martinez visit. Brother Roches gave us an update of the work in San Pedro, and outlined the ongoing project of starting a congregation on the un-entered island of Caye Caulker. He spoke, using the story of Balaam, and urged us to work for Jesus and to be ready for His soon coming. The visit by our brethren from Belize was a great blessing to members of our church, and those who had been a part of the 2004 mission trip enjoyed the wonderful reunion.
