From recommendation engines to fraud detection, machine learning is one of today's fastest-growing technology fields. Southwestern Adventist University (SWAU) is preparing students to enter the field through a new Machine Learning Certificate.
Machine learning is a subset of artificial intelligence in which computer systems learn patterns from data. Using algorithms, machine learning models identify relationships in data to make predictions, support decisions, and generate content.
Students in the program learn core concepts, implementing and interpreting algorithms, analyzing data, and evaluating model performance, learning to understand and apply data-driven methods in an increasingly digital, technology-driven world.
Designed to fit within existing degree plans, the certificate allows students to earn an additional credential without delaying graduation.
The Machine Learning Certificate consists of three courses (“Computing as a Human Endeavor,” “Data Analysis,” and “Introduction to Machine Learning”) totaling nine credit hours. Participants also complete a capstone project that solves a real-world problem, demonstrating their ability to analyze data, implement appropriate models, and interpret results.
