Lake Charles Church Prepares for Health Expo

More than 30 members of the Lake Charles Seventh-day Adventist Church gathered June 6, 2026, for health evangelism training in preparation for an upcoming community health expo and evangelistic outreach initiative.
The training emphasized the importance of using the health message as the “right arm of the Gospel” to open doors, build relationships and ultimately lead individuals to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Throughout the day, participants received instruction on the NEWSTART principles: nutrition, exercise, water, sunshine, temperance, air, rest and trust in God. Each station provided both scientific and spiritual foundations to help members effectively minister to the needs of the community.
The nutrition station highlighted the benefits of whole-food, plant-based meals and practical ways individuals can make healthier lifestyle choices.
The exercise station emphasized the importance of regular physical activity, particularly walking and spending time outdoors. Participants learned how simple lifestyle changes can improve physical, mental and spiritual well-being and explored tools that can help support those changes.
At the water station, members learned about the benefits of adequate hydration and were introduced to basic hydrotherapy principles. The sunshine and air stations reinforced the importance of fresh air and natural sunlight as gifts from God that contribute to health and wellness.
The temperance station focused on moderation and self-control in all aspects of life, encouraging balance and healthy decision-making.
The rest station addressed the role of restorative sleep, stress management and the Sabbath as part of God’s plan for health.
The trust in God station focused on spiritual wellness, prayer, compassionate listening and counseling. Participants were reminded that while health education is important, connecting individuals with the Great Physician is the ultimate goal of health ministry.
A central theme throughout the training was the importance of approaching every individual with open hearts and open minds. Members were encouraged to avoid judgment, extend grace and reflect Christ’s love in every interaction. Just as Jesus ministered to people’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs, participants were challenged to meet community members where they are and demonstrate genuine care and compassion.
Books, manuals, and educational resources were distributed to equip volunteers for service. The enthusiasm and commitment displayed by those in attendance reflected a shared desire to serve the Lake Charles community.
As preparations continue for the upcoming health expo, members are praying that the initiative will provide opportunities for individuals to improve their health, build meaningful relationships and learn more about Jesus Christ.
