Building Community Through Music and Ministry

A community choir is opening doors for outreach at The Journey church.

The Journey Seventh-day Adventist Church has discovered a unique opportunity to connect with its community through music, fellowship, and Christian witness.

Last year, a member of the Las Vegas community approached the church with an unexpected request. She was searching for a choir director and a church willing to host a new community choir made up of members from five area churches. As members of The Journey church prayed about the opportunity, they recognized it as an answer to their prayers for outreach and a Christ-centered witness within the community.

Although The Journey is a small congregation, the church has a long history of presenting Christmas programs and partnering with local musicians. This new initiative brought together enthusiastic Christian singers from various denominations who were eager to participate in the church’s programs. Church members, in turn, were excited to welcome them into their services and share their faith through music.

The Interfaith Choir’s first presentation was a nativity program held last December. The event filled the church sanctuary with community members, friends, and family who gathered to celebrate the birth of Christ through scripture and music.

Building on that success, the choir recently presented Days of Grace, a special Easter season program portraying God’s guiding hand throughout the final week of Jesus’ earthly ministry. The presentation welcomed guests from across the community and once again filled the sanctuary.

Sixty-seven guests attended the program, which emphasized the significant events leading up to that climactic moment. Through scripture readings, music, and visual presentations, attendees experienced the emotional and spiritual journey of Jesus and His disciples during those final days.

The Interfaith Choir performed selections reflecting the deep emotions surrounding Christ’s sacrifice, while scriptural narration and background music helped bring the events to life. The program concluded with a congregational hymn sing, inviting everyone to join their voices together in praise and reflection.

Following each presentation, guests were invited to enjoy a time of fellowship and refreshments. These gatherings provided opportunities for meaningful conversations, new friendships, and continued connections among participants and attendees.

Looking ahead, the Interfaith Choir is preparing a Christian-based patriotic program to be presented at another Las Vegas community church. The program will celebrate the nation’s heritage as a place of refuge where individuals are free to worship God.

We are grateful for the doors God has opened through this ministry. What began as a simple request has become a meaningful outreach opportunity, allowing the congregation to build relationships, strengthen community connections, and share Christ with people they might not otherwise have met.

Through music, fellowship, and cooperation among believers, The Journey Seventh-day Adventist Church continues to witness God’s leading as it seeks to serve its community and glorify Him.
